Havent posted in a while so thought i would post these.

Shot these 3 foxes latley under the lamp light. The first one was called in to about 170 yards on a local dairy farm, it was a vixen and as it was sitting upright behind a gate I had to theard a bullet between the gate into its head at just below its left eye.

This one was shot on the same farm. It was in an awkward place and I could only see the top of its head at about 120 yards, I took the shot but missed I could see the vapour trail in and it missed the top of her head by a whisker. We turned off the lamp thinking it would be long gone but when we turned it back on she was trotting slowly out at about 240 yards so I took aim and made sure of it this time.

This dog fox was took on a sheep farm where the farmer had a few Lambs killed by a fox, I took this one at 280 yards, we couldnt get it to stop as it was trotting across us towards a hedge but a quick shout and it stopped long enough for me to put teh crosshair about an inch above its back, dopping a 32g v-max into its lungs nicely.

I took this rabbit at sunrise at over 300 yards using my reduced tac20 loads, was a nice quick and painless kill, I have this load running at 20vartarg velocity just for fun. I am waiting for late spring to really start shooting rabbits its a bit cold at the minute and not many of them are out, but they will be soon.

This last one is just from an evening in the woods behind my house with my 12gauge shotgun, its good fun waiting for pigeons, magpies crows etc coming into roost, the crow in the middle is what we call a Greyback or hooded crow, quite big and a real pest especially with young lambs on the ground they would think nothing of attacking them and picking there eyes out before eating them alive. The other 2 at the sides are wood pigeons (not sure if you get them in the states) and also a magpie which I think you guys have
anyhow.

Thats all for now.

Nice shots and nice guns!!!!

My wife will be visiting Ireland in May, can you suggest any "must do" things while she is there.

I see your time away from us was well spent. You deserve a big ol biggrin.gif for that!! biggrin.gif

Cool pics & writeup! Thanks for sharing!!

Do rabbits or fox have a season over there by chance? If not do you use a self imposed season? How about fur sales?

Sage rat slayer wha part is your wife going to?

Glen there is no closed season on vermin like foxes and rabbits here but generally I would stop shooting foxes now unless they are being a nusiance, as they are pairing up and breeding now I like to give them a chance. The rabbits need a bit more attention as they can get really outta control very quickly and with the last couple of mild winters they have been breeding alot more so there numbers are definatley on the rise, I dont like to shoot too many in the winter with the lamp though as I would rather shoot them in late spring/summer in the evening when I can enjoy it abit more and can get out at longer range.
As for fur there is really no market now for it about 15 years ago you could have got what would be about $40 for a good fox fur but now with all the "save the furry animals" stuff there is no market, its ashame as it would cover my expenses for powder and bullets etc.

OK. We have a rabbit & fox season here but only a self imposed coyote season throught the Country. It's always interesting to know how things work in the other parts of the world too. Thanks!! biggrin.gif

What kind of birds are those? They look familiar

Been wanting to go to Ireland just to see a game of Hurling live, don't get it here very often.
