WTB Savage Model 12 Varminter Low Profile 22-250 { 1 in 9" twist }Savage showed them on there site on 1 / 26 / 2008. It is no longer there now. Only shows the 1 in 12 twist. I have a dealer buddy of mine looking for me today. Just looking for a back-up outlet. Thanks

I'm betting it was a misprint.

a guy could find a new take off .223 (1-9) barrel and have it rechambered for 22-250....bada-bing!

or for that matter, just buy the .223, have it rechambered, swap the bolt face, and if it's a repeater, change the mag follower.

just another option.

AHH, it's no misprint. I've been reading about them for a couple years now. They are now discontinued. Yes, Savage did just take them off there web site within the past couple weeks. My buddy found one. Said it should be here tomorrow. { HAPPY DANCE } Wish I had some extra bucks laying around. I have a hunch this 1 in 9" is going to be highly sought after. Ruger 77 MKII is going to the auction block today. This is the read I came accross. It was the stick that broke the camel's back. I then new, I had to have one.

In regards to accuracy, my bone-stock Model 12LRPV (.22-250, 1-9" twist) will regularly shoot in the .2's at 100 yards and in the .4's at 200 yards with 53gr SMK's. With 75gr A-Max's, my best to date is 0.468" at 300 yards, but groups usually average between 3/4 and 1" at that range.

I've got some 77gr Bergers and SMK's I want to try out, but that won't happen until we get some decent spring weather. Whether or not they'll stabilize in the 1-9 twist is the question, but if they don't I can always use them in my 1-8 twist 22-250 AI.

Just a note on the short/light bullets (40gr or less) with a fast twist barrel. Given the RPM's the bullets are turning in these barrels, you have to use bullets with a thicker jacket. The 40gr Nosler BT's are just such a bullet. Once you get to 45gr or heavier bullets this isn't a problem.

That said, I wouldn't waste my time using anything less than 50gr bullets. The 50gr Nosler BT's are an exceptional varmint bullet and actually have a better BC than their 55gr brother. The 52 and 53gr match bullets (Berger and Sierra) are excellent for punching paper (if you want to shoot some local benchrest matches). The 65gr Sierra GameKing is a great all-around hunting bullet and hits like a sledgehammer (this bullet was designed to dispatch kangaroo's in Australia, and is very popular in states where hunting deer with a .22 centerfire is legal). And finally, the 69-75gr Match bullets are great for long range paper punching or varmint hunting.
