Have tried the Hot Dog call without any luck. Have practiced against some howls i downloaded to try and get that perfect pitch. My kids left the instructional DVD out and the dogs chewed it up (along with some of there games and moveis )
What was this call desinged for (locating, conversation)?
Is there a specific time of year to use it?
I live in central IL should it matter as far as location?
Does anyone now of a download of this call?
Thanks

How's it hanging AR? I am new to the sport but my only call so far is a hot dog. I have a lot to learn of course but I have called in two dogs in 4 days of hunting. Maybe 10 stands tops. I think maybe I don't stay long enough at one spot and I feel like I don't have a good feel for call sequence yet. The first one I called in was with a male locator call followed by a couple interrogation howls. A large coyote appeared from a drainage ditch (I hunt on Camp Pendleton which is southern Ca near San Diego). This one maybe a minute or so into my calling. The second that I killed was with the "cottontail in distress" call. This dog appeared again out of a ditch within a minute or so of my calling. When doing the rabbit distress I hum into the call to add a raspy tone. I haven't decided if it is more effective with the raspy tone or not. IMO it seems the tone of the call sounds a little cheesy but again I dunno. Maybe someone else out their has more experience in the matter. Hope this helps a little. Keep at it and you will have some luck.

I use the lil dog and I love that call. You can use it anytime of year and it will work. You can also do distress sounds on it. Very versatile call. I always start with an interogation howl and depending on the time of year go from there. I dont use too may distress sounds cause here in utah, this time of year, a dying jack or cottontail means leads going to be flying so they dont come into those very well. You just gotta find what they like. Maybe take a look at the Mastering the Art DVD by primos. It has some great info... Good luck and let us know how things work out

i own and really like the hot dog. although i will admit it does take time to get the hang of. like jes21 said try primos' mastering the art and if you like what you see also consider the predator hunting video line produced by primos. alot of tactics can be picked up from watching Randy anderson do what he does best.
hope this helps, edward

I can burn you a copy of the CD if you want? Being as you already bought one I don't think it infringes on copyrights. The CD really helps you get the most out of the call, once mastered it's very versatile. No, I haven't mastered it yet, recent purchase.

I've been using the Hot Dog and a rabbit distress one right after the other with good results. Got one yesterday with that combination. The sequence I've been using is female locater, female invite, cottontail.
