I see several vendors seem to have PMC Predator 22wmr for around $7 a box. Seem like it could be a good time to stock up. I have not shot this ammo and cannot find it in local stores. Any field reports?

Get it while you can. This ammo was made in the Philippines for PMC which has closed its rimfre operations. I tested some in all of my rifles and it gave mediocre accuracy. In my Savage Striker pistol, however, it placed #3 out of five or six different varieties I tested. From a 10" barrel with a 6X scope it shot .6" at 50M for an average. ~AMMOe

Magcheck is right about it's wet paper performance. It is clearly no Win. 40gr.HP! However, in both of my 22 WMR rifles (Chuckster & Ruger 96), it equaled both the Winny & the CCI 40 gr. ammo in accuracy, which is to say, very good. My 96 was around 1" @ 100. In my Chuckster, I only shot at 50 yrds, and groups were usually between .50 -.75".
If I'm not mistaken, it isn't in my notes, however I think it was dirtier than most. Maybe Mag-Check can weigh in on that.

Cool, I will stick with Winchester. I have had great luck with CCI also.
Can you fill me in on the wet paper?

The CCI in the wet paper mushrooms out larger than the Win 40 and fragments more than the Win 40 but doesnt penetrate as much as the Win 40gr. Great ammo the CCI 40gr. Hp is! Velocity wise the both with different lots that Ive tried are pretty much with SAAMI spec for velocity. I like both rounds, I shoot the Wins and my younger brother likes the CCI 40s in his old Winchester lever gun.

They take stacks of newspaper and soak them in water, and shoot into the wet newspapers. Then they go through the papers until they find the bullet. I have never done it, but I imagine you have to have some kind of set procedure to make sure the stacks are of similar "wetness" to be able to judge penetration tests from one round to the next. It's not real scientific, but it can give you comparative results for different rounds that are good enough to help you choose a hunting round.
