I wasn't going to post this as I thought it was not really topical until now. biggrin.gif

I have been having hog trouble for the past 6 months or more, during deer season my Dad shot about 20 hogs (3 with one shot), and I shot about 15, we thought we thinned them pretty good. The other morning my wife saw a heard of about 30, in the grove. She had an early morning meeting and it was about 5:00 am. After the hurting my Dad put on them they have gone nocturnal.

Last weekend, I built the "Hog Motel" trap, based on some plans I found on the internet. It has a swinging door and I have been baiting it (unset) since Sunday, they started hitting the bait Tuesday night and have been hitting it every night since then. I set the trap tonight. I'm hoping for hogs in the morning. See attached pics, when they jostle the bucket of soured corn, it springs the rat trap which in turn pull the stake that's propping open the door, once the stake is pulled the bungee cords closes the door behind them. The idea is that more can come in, but those in can't get out.

I'll see if it works and let you know.

Eric thanks for the "Wild Hog Forum" biggrin.gif

Cool trap, keep us posted.

Thanks Red.

It worked! tongue.gif

Saturday morning I check it and found this medium sized boar.

He was not a happy motel guest.

The trap seemed to work precisely as planned.

He's now baiting coyote, if the buzzards left anything.

One down ?? many to go..........

I know the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but I wish I had your problem. smile.gif

Good job on the trap. cool.gif

Thanks for your comments. smile.gif

If I catch a real small one, I may try and fatten it up for a BBQ.
The boars that size and larger are really nasty, smelling, tasting, and Mean.

When I drove up to the trap I had my German short hair, Jake with me, he's fearless he was trying his best to get to him, but that boar was popping his teeth, it probably would have been a good fight.

I'm hoping we have a few more participants to the "hog" forum.

Anyhow, I had a wedding this weekend and the trap went unset.

I baited it up this morning, we'll see what happens next........

Here's a pic of Jake.
