I would first like to thank Eric for setting this page up. Eric, you have been a great help to me in getting HUNTS FOR HEROES off the ground. Had it not been for you and some of our internet friends HFH would still be only a dream. People I met online 15-years ago I now count as true friends. I know the HFH page here on the Varminter website will produce many, many more.
For those of you that don’t know, I am Billy Hodges. Our HFH www.huntsforheroes.com web site will tell you how and why we got started. The site is being updated with all the 2007/2008 hunting info right now. I am hoping it will be up within a week. In short, we took wounded heroes on 127 outdoor- related activities last year. Next year, it will be ten times that number. However, we pray for the day that we have no more wounded to take hunting.
We are kicking off the 2007/2008 hunting and fishing season with a big-assed Texas Bar-B-Que at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) in San Antonio, Texas the 24th-25th of March. The HFH team will be giving the bar-b-que for the wounded on the 4th and 5th floors at BAMC. Those are the heroes that have been burned, and are just out of ICU.
HFH has partnered up with TEXAS WILDLIFE ASSOCIATION and will run several hunts with them next year. A new chapter for HFH is in the works for the Texas Hill Country. We have hunts scheduled on the legendary KING RANCH as well as dozens on smaller ranches in South Texas as well as our waterfowl hunts here in El Campo. HFH is growing faster than I can keep up with but we have wonderful people helping us do this......We have come light years from the day I showed up at BAMC with a 30-06, a .243 and a 12-gauge shotgun on my front seat when the MP at the front gate yelled...YOU WANT TO WHAT?
