I don't know how most of you do it, but this method is fairly easy and inexpensive.

Take a strip of stiff flat metal (aluminum or steel 3/16" thick or so) narrow enough to fit on some flat part of your receiver or base (hopefully you have such a spot). Long enough to accomplish what's shown in the picture. I used a Starrett level because I figured they would be better than most. The rings are off for clarity. Once the rifle is level, put a plumb bob out at around 50 yds or whatever range you can clearly see the string. Then just rotate the scope until the vertical crosshair coincides with the string. Make sure the rifle remains level while you're fussing with the scope. Tighten the rings and check again. Your done!

If you are doing this outdoors (my basement isn't 50 yards long biggrin.gif ) do you hang the plumb bob from a right-handed or left-handed sky hook? screamcamo.gif

WTFC-

Right or left, it doesn't matter! An ambidextrous sky hook will also work. biggrincamo.gif Or, you could use a local ACORN or Obama supporter to hold it!! freakedcamo.gif

I did it outside from a shooting bench so 30-50 yards wasn't a problem. For the bob, I used a piece of 5/16" or 3/8" rod and put a 90 deg. bend in it about 8" long. Jam it in the ground and hang the bob from the 8" leg.

A sawhorse, tripod, etc. will also work. Needs to be done on a calm day otherwise the bob will be bobbing too much. wink.gif

Good tip about the plumb bob. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for not taking me too seriously. I have a tendancy to be a smart a$$ at times. biggrincamo.gif

No problem. I don't mind a good natured jab now & then. We should be able to laugh at ourselves without being offended. I know that goes against the PC crowd but I don't give a s**t!!! The more PC incorrect I am the better I like it.

Speaking of being an a$$ (in this case a dumb one) -
