That is crazy! I go and sit in bushes and call them to me not even thinking of something like that going down. I'm done!! No more coyote hunting for me.

Thats makes me want to hunt harder and kill more shooter john. Ive got a buddy while he was going to back to his deer stand hunting and a pack of coyotes tried coming after him but he ran for a tree and climbed like a squirrel to escape from them.

It's disturbing. I just logged on to post a link about it when I saw this thread. Too bad they didn't try to attack someone who was armed.

maybe your buddy should have acted like the alpha male and started drooling and barking. nmdoghunter called in a dog for me up here in cruces last year and that sucker laid the ears back and started growlin at me about 5 feet behind me.. so the 22-250 growled back. i missed because he was so close and I shot from the hip but I think I got the point across who was boss. tonguecamo.gif

They grow em big up north. My nephew and I got one last year in northern Michigan and it was huge compared to the ones in NM. .

Anyway me and my partner got a couple NM size dogs last weekend. He shot a courtesy dog before the first stand with his 375 H&H. Not much left of that one. It was one of those where someone need to say "you want fries with that". Next stand on top of a huge hill I shot one that was at 150 yards and it ran off. I got it with a follow up shot in a hail of 223 from the AR. Turns out the first shot hit it in the hind leg.

Any pictures of the .375 coyote kill?

I have never heard of coyote attacks on humans, but I supposed it could happen. I have seen nearby coyotes crossing the road, etc., but they usually are on a fast trot, going Lord-knows-where. Maybe the woman was trying to entertain them by playing her guitar, and the dogs gave her what they thought was a just reward. Anyway, such a shame that she was attacked.

I see she was attacked in a National park. That means that A.) no firearms are allowed (probably esp. in Canada) and B.) the coyotes probably have no fear of man. I have been to several national parks here in the states (Acadia, Yellowstone, Denali, Grand Canyon, Glacier, ect) and can tell you for a fact that the animals in those parks do not act like true "wild" animals; they have become conditioned to humans and have lost all fear. When I can walk up to within 10 yards of a 6x6 elk without having to conceal myself (and the elk being down wind), there is something wrong with the animals natural instincts.

Sorry to hear of this, but I don't think it will be an isolated incident. Besides, the animal rights freaks keep telling us that coyotes only eat grasshoppers, the sick, and the week. Guess they forgot to tell the coyotes!

Maybe she should have left the gee-tar at home and taken along a shotgun or AR. I would venture to guess that the woman was pro-animal rights and would never have allowed protection from any of us evil hunters. I would also bet that this story will never appear in any PETA publications.

It's a shame the girl had to die. The Canadians will probably write this off as a freak occurrence and ignore a real problem. The young lady more than likely panicked and tried to run from the pack which simply triggered the predator/prey instinct in the coyotes. While she couldn't legally carry a firearm she could have had a can of pepper spray as used on bears. That may have bought her time, or perhaps even ended the confrontation. Another problem is this whole 'nature is good and kind and I'm never at risk' attitude a lot of tree huggers have today. Had she been hiking with another adult odds are the attack may not have taken place at all. Rather than sending professional hunters in to locate and eradicate this particular pack they will more than likely attempt to trap them and relocate the animals.

That's a stretch. A 19 year old girl is attacked and killed in a park and that somehow makes her an animal rights nut????

I remember when this story broke. What a shame and waste for a talented and pretty young girl like that to be mauled to death. We have one of many golf courses two miles up the road from us. This one as well as the others are getting a coyote population. The house cats and pet dogs are already beginning to be gobbled up. I went to the village manager two months ago and offered my services for free to no avail. This is a very small town who's 'leadership' noses are way up in the sky like they are somebody. The residents count for squat except for the tax base. I had all my ducks in order to include this story and stories of many attacks, eye witness account of a missing pet and I had the blessing of the NC Wildlife to be allowed to relax their no gun laws within the town limits. I also walked and found many safe places to set up without even a remote chance of doing any personal or property damage. All I needed was a blessing from the town manager and Chief of Police. Turns out they and some others like to think of the coyotes as Wile e Coyote in the cartoons. Won't entertain the thought that coyotes do not belong in their residents back yards. No doubt some of the summers litters will find their way into my backyard with my pets.
